Regional Applications Engineer

SUMMARY: The Regional Application Engineer is responsible for independently managing an assigned territory and customer base, serving as the primary technical contact throughout the machine delivery lifecycle. This role owns customer relationships, production process development, machine readiness, and customer training within their territory. This position requires advanced technical expertise and the consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in developing manufacturing processes, programming CNC machines, selecting tooling, and training customers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Reviews and understands customer part prints, Company time studies and machine quotations.
- Develops documentation related to tooling, work-holding, etc. for project purchases.
- Writes CNC programs for products, installs and adapts all necessary components for a proper machine set-up, and debugs all facets of the process and project.
- Develop robust machining processes utilizing advanced turning methodologies and best practices.
- Utilize CAD/CAM software to develop and validate machining strategies and programs.
- Develops tooling and work-holding solutions and independently selects all tooling for each project, including INDEX durable tooling and accessories as well as perishable tooling from third-party suppliers; prepares all related documentation for project purchases.
- Plans projects including Virtual machine preparation and tooling selection.
- Adheres to project timeline and completes projects successfully with little to no supervision.
- Prepares machines and related items by breaking down set-up, inventorying packages, verifying that all items have been accounted for, repacking items, and preparing packing list and shipping information.
- Performs and coordinates the set-up of sold machines and follows through to final machine acceptance and customer training at the customer’s site or INDEX.
- Supports other Company departments by providing project status, technical knowledge, and departmental processes.
- Independently conduct customer training including machine operation, programming, process optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through proactive communication, onsite visits, follow-ups, and technical support.
- Interpret CMM results and SPC data; identify key part characteristics that define process stability and quality performance.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma and ten plus year’s related experience and/or training in engineering, technology, or other related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Five plus year’s of shop floor management experience is also required. Extensive experience with CNC turning machines, including setup, programming, and process optimization, is required. Previous experience in a manufacturing environment where engineering and project management skills were essential to the overall operations of the organization is required.
