Machine and System Design

Training period: 3.5 years

Technical Product Designers are an important link between engineering, planning and production. They refine ideas and drafts of the design engineers and developers and elaborate them according to standards.

The trainees learn to design with 3D CAD programs and model precisely and logically designed components on the computer. From this they derive true-to-scale and technically professional drawings.
Knowledge of materials and manufacturing options with possible tolerances and fittings are just as much part of the training of product designers as knowledge of assembly technology, electrical engineering and control technology.

During the first years of their training, the Technical Product Designers undergo a 6-month mechanical training course with supplementary insights into numerous production areas, thereby expanding their knowledge of production processes and machine components.

With the help of modern IT equipment they learn the necessary basics in a young environment. They consolidate what they have learned with initial, simple real technical projects, supported by the trainer in the technical office of the training facility. 

They come into initial contact and exchange with related areas, designing and planning their ideas and then implementing them.
All that is learned builds the competence to create CAD models and technical drawings in the following operating phase on the basis of the developments of the design engineers, which are required for the production of parts and in the assembly of plants and machines.
This knowledge is also used when creating computer simulations, 3D printing or performing technical calculations.

WORKING AREAS of our Technical Product Designers are research and development, contract design, equipment design or tool holder design. Also deployment in technical documentation or in CAD support is not ruled out.

REQUIREMENTS include good spatial perception, logical thinking, mathematical skills and technical understanding, as well as fine motor skills. Equally important are the ability to work in a team, a sociable and courteous manner, good communication, networked thinking and joy in working with computer and application systems.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES: Specialization in fluid, electrical or other areas of competence such as sheet metal forming or product support.

FURTHER QUALIFICATION OPPORTUNITIES: Industrial Mechanic; Mechanical Technician; Design Engineer; Business Economist; Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng.).

Subsequent fields of activity: Design engineer in development or design; project supervisor for automation or production topics; reorientation into commercial areas such as sales or inventory management with technical background.
